Murder Rivals Sheriff
Complete Murder Rivals Sheriff guide: identify the Murderer, aim tips, avoid innocent kills, and win rounds as the law enforcement role.
Last updated: June 2026
The Sheriff is Murder Rivals’ highest-pressure role — armed with a single gun and the duty to stop the Murderer before all Innocents fall. Assigned to one player per round in 12-player lobbies on Place ID 5720801512, the Sheriff wins by correct identification, not trigger speed alone.
Developed by 한국머더, Murder Rivals punishes reckless Sheriff play: one Innocent kill ends your round and drops the gun for a potential Hero pickup. This guide covers identification, positioning, map tactics, and aim fundamentals.
Sheriff Objectives
| Goal | Priority |
|---|---|
| Eliminate Murderer | Primary |
| Protect Innocents | By shooting Murderer only |
| Survive | Dying enables Hero mechanic |
| Avoid team kills | Instant role failure |
How Sheriff Assignment Works
When a Standard round begins:
- One random player becomes Murderer
- One random player becomes Sheriff (not the Murderer)
- Up to ten players become Innocents
- Timer starts — Murderer must kill everyone or Sheriff/Hero must stop them

Identification Strategy
Murderers hide among Innocents. Watch for:
- Behavioral tells — Players avoiding groups, circling coin spawns alone
- Proximity kills — Bodies appearing after someone was nearby
- Movement patterns — Erratic approach angles toward isolated targets
- Reaction to Sheriff reveal — Some Murderers freeze or overcompensate
No single tell is proof — accumulate evidence before shooting.
Observation Phase
Early round: do not shoot. Collect coins like Innocents while scanning. Murderers often strike mid-round when attention drops.
Combat and Aim
Sheriff fires with left click (PC) or attack button (mobile). See PC Controls and Sheriff Aim guide.
| Principle | Detail |
|---|---|
| Crosshair placement | Pre-aim corners on Headquarters |
| Trigger discipline | One Innocent kill = failure |
| Range | Gun reaches farther than knife — maintain distance |
| Post-shot | Murderer dead = Innocents win; miss = reveal position |
Map-Specific Sheriff Tips
| Map | Tactic |
|---|---|
| Town | Use open lanes for sightlines |
| House | Clear rooms sequentially |
| Hospital | Watch hallway chokepoints |
| Office | Cubicle ambushes — check corners |
| Headquarters | Elevated angles favor gun |

Sheriff Death and Hero Chain
If Murderer kills Sheriff:
- Gun drops at body location
- Nearest Innocent pressing E (interact) becomes Hero
- Hero inherits Sheriff win condition
Guide: Hero role
Protect yourself — Hero saves are dramatic but unreliable in chaos.
Common Sheriff Mistakes
| Mistake | Fix |
|---|---|
| Panic shooting | Wait for strong evidence |
| Chasing Murderer into crowds | Hold angle instead |
| Ignoring Hero opportunity | Call out gun drop location in chat |
| High sensitivity | Tune in Settings |
Sheriff in Other Modes
| Mode | Notes |
|---|---|
| Assassin | Faster pacing — quicker decisions |
| Ghost | Visibility changes — adjust reads |
| Duel | Direct confrontation focus |
| Five-Minute | Less observation time |
| Trade Server | No Sheriff role — trading only |
Rank and Cosmetics
Sheriff skill accelerates rank from Bronze toward Rainbow X — see Rank Progression and Rank Guide. Cosmetic knives/guns from Season 8 (Fairy, Pegasus, Seraphic) are flex only — no stat bonus.
